Organised by members of the Galway startup community, the goal of Galway Startup Weekend is to build connections among the startup community and the food experts in the region, providing the space and time for collaboration on innovative projects that will disrupt how we interact with food or solve key issues in the food and beverage industry.
Startup Weekends are weekend-long, hands-on experiences where entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs can find out if startup ideas are viable; nearly 500 Startup Weekends have taken place around the globe, with 200 more currently in the planning phase. Developers, designers, marketers, product managers and startup and food enthusiasts will come together to share ideas, form teams, build products, launch startups and compete for prizes in 54 high-energy hours. Anyone looking to test their abilities as an entrepreneur is welcome, however the weekend is perfect for entrepreneurs interested in receiving feedback on an idea, looking for a co-founder, or those who want to learn new skills. At a startup weekend the learning curve is a steep one and friendships as well as business connections certainly will be made.
Startup Weekend Galway is hosting the first ever Food and Technology hackathon in Ireland and the location is ideal as Galway boasts a rich culture in food and a high number of passionate food entrepreneurs. Galway also is the location for the the Food on the Edge; the renowned international food conference. Following the success of Innovation West late last year and the OMiG digital marketing summit earlier this month – Galway is proving it can punch its weight when it comes to its place in the Irish Startup scene.
Registration covers the cost of instruction, mentorship, a Startup Weekend Galway T-shirt and goodies. At this Food focused event there will also be seven locally prepared meals showcasing the best the west has on offer in culinary delights; early bird and student discounts are available, so the cost is €45, for the full weekend, students can avail of a 50% discount while tickets last.
